While you wait

Looking for something to do while your dog is pampered? Here are my favourite places nearby.

Much Wenlock

8 minutes’ drive

A quaint town full of independent shops, cafés and history. Nearby Wenlock Edge is a lovely place for a walk.

Plenty of dog-friendly cafés and pubs, including:

  • The George and Dragon
  • The Wenlock Smoothie
  • Barrow St Café (with a lovely garden)
  • Tea on the Square

Buildwas Abbey

On the way to Ironbridge

The ruins of a 12th-century abbey beside the River Severn, looked after by English Heritage. Entry is free, and dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds.

It sometimes closes after very wet weather, so it’s worth checking their website before you go.

Ironbridge

20 minutes’ drive

A bit further afield, with a wide range of independent shops, cafés, pubs and plenty of walks. There are lots of dog-friendly pubs and cafés all along the gorge.

Just up the road in Coalbrookdale, Embers Café cooks everything over open fires, in a woodland setting at the Green Wood Centre. Dogs are very welcome, and there’s plenty of seating outside. It’s closed on Mondays.

The Ironbridge Gorge has a great selection of museums and attractions: ironbridge.org.uk
